“It’s pretty crazy times but the spirit of adventure has only increased, as having to think outside the box has now become normal”, reports Debs Edirisinghe from Kandy, and Child Action Lanka our trusted ECED partner in Sri Lanka.
Initially Debs opened her facilities to take in children sleeping on the streets of the city. Cooked meals were provided for children and parents at the facilities until the Government closed the facilities down. The island is expecting to return to a strick lockdown in the coming days.
Debs was able to secure special passes to allow movement past the curfew in order to take dry rations to families at home. Along with care packs of basic supplies and study packs for the children. Food rations are provided to families in Kandy, Nuwara Eliya and Batticaloa.
“Recently we had the Ministry of Health come and check in on our main facility in Kandy they were surprised as to how street kids could reach proper growth chart rates. They did praise CAL but I think the credit actually should go to FTH for enabling this.” reports Debs.
