Feed the Hungry began with the simple idea of helping hungry children no one else was helping. By partnering with schools in Uganda, we offer more than just food. For $6, we provide a month of school meals for a child. That meal keeps them in class, focused, and moving toward a future beyond poverty.

It seems so simple. $6 to provide a meal for a child in school, for a whole month. Yet it unlocks so much more. We all understand that education is the key to escaping the poverty cycle, but for these children who don’t have food, how can they possibly concentrate? Central to all our feeding programs is to work with schools, meeting the child’s immediate need for food, alongside their future need… an education.

How do we get meals to the children? We don’t send food to governments or militaries. We look for the local church, because the local church knows where food is needed most. They can get it to the right people and places; and when they give physical food, they can offer spiritual food that gives children a future and a hope.

What drives me is simple: the knowledge that somewhere, right now, a child is going to bed hungry n waking up to the same reality.

In Uganda, much of our work focuses on refugees—families who’ve lost everything. Working with someone like Pastor Solomon is so important to the success of our program in Uganda. He is a man of vision and he sees great opportunities to help, not only his own country, but the helpless refugees that continue to arrive.

Thousands of refugee children go to sleep hungry every night, knowing it’s not going to be any different in the morning. I often get asked “How do you deal with the never-ending heartache?” I tell them what keeps me going is the idea of feeding one child, making a difference for one person.

There’s a billion people in the world who don’t have enough food to eat. I would love to be able to feed them all. I can’t, but I can make a difference. I can make a difference every day. I may not change the whole world, but I can change someone’s world. And that’s enough to get me out of bed each morning—believing that today, I can do good that lasts.
