For a young person like Aduk, an 18-year-old girl from Uganda’s refugee settlements, the hope is simply to survive. But with regular food and a place to live, Aduk can begin to dream of the future.
Aduk fled the war in South Sudan with her parents. Her father was shot by rebels on the journey, and last year her mother died of cancer. Now Aduk is the oldest of six children and is responsible for keeping them together.
Every morning, she wakes before 4am to clean the place she lives and cook what little they have. When she comes to school, she’s often hungry. With help from friends like you, she receives a meal at school and saves a little each day to feed her sisters when she returns home.
“I cut one side and keep it, then I take it home to my younger sisters.”
Yet even in her hardship, Aduk dreams of becoming a doctor, to help her sisters and give them the future her parents never had. With friends like you we are able to help make that dream possible. When we feed a child, we are not only giving food for today but strength and hope. Because it’s more than a meal, it’s a future.
Each meal is carefully packed, shipped, and delivered through Feed The Hungry’s trusted network of schools and partners. Your support helps cover the vital costs of getting food safely into the hands of children who need it most.
For Aduk and her siblings, that meal is everything. e In sharing what little she has, Aduk shows what it means to give, even when she has almost nothing herself.
THANK YOU for helping provide a month of nutritious meals for a hungry child — food that gives strength, energy and hope.
