At home the children may only have two small crackers and a cup of tea for their main meal. So Monday is the BEST day of the week for the 605 hungry children attending CAL centres across Sri Lanka. It’s the day they can fill their empty tummies and look forward to four more days of nutritious, filling meals provided by Feed The Hungry. Meals that are only made possible by your generous gifts.
Debs Edirisinghe, Founder and Director of Child Action Lanka, said. “On a day recorded as the coldest in our country, I visited one of our centres. It was raining heavily so I was not expecting to see many children. Yet there they were, pouring through the door… drenched and shivering, to get their only meal of the day.”
“I had a chat with some parents that day and they were so grateful! Having that need being met for their children was such a relief for them. One mum said, ‘You’ve taken a huge pressure off us by making sure our kids are fed at least one meal a day.’ So for the families, being able to have that meal is a massive thing.”
Child Action Lanka hope to take their feeding program into schools and feed many more hungry children across Sri Lanka.
