Dream becomes a reality

Almost ten years ago, in 2014, I dreamed about a national fundraising day – working with all the Christian radio stations of Australia. It seemed like an improbability.

Dr Lester Sumrall, our charity’s founder, would often say “Feed your faith, and starve your doubts.”

And so, I surrounded myself with men and women of vision, a strong work ethic and most of all, courage. Together we worked to make that dream inevitable.

Many are the thanks that I need to give, for many are the shoulders of giants that I have stood on to see this dream comes to pass. However, I wish to extend a particular and profound appreciation to Berlinda Fortin, working with Dunham & Company.

Last year my dream became a reality. On the 22nd August 2023 the first national fundraiser “Take Away Hunger Day” was held with a simple goal of feeding 100,000 children for an entire month.

And you did it!! Thank you to all the communities for all 40 Christian Radio Stations across Australia who gave generously.

You have helped to answer the heartfelt prayers of vulnerable children who don’t know where their next meal is coming from. And so, they pray “Our Father who art in Heaven… give us today our daily bread…”

Children like Angok Ma Bior in Uganda, who answered my simple question “What would happen if we had to stop this feeding program?” “I could have died!”

I think of Angok often. I know there are many complicated problems in the world and they often require sophisticated solutions… but this is life at its simplest.

Without food this little boy would die. The idea that I actually can do something about this is what gets me out of bed every day, for 20 years now in this organisation.

And the joyous news is that it doesn’t take much to make a difference. Just $6 can feed Angok for an entire month!
