Disaster Relief Update: Earthquake in Venezuela
Feed The Hungry is responding to the devastating earthquake in Venezuela, where more than 2,000 people have lost their lives and many thousands more have been affected.
To help meet urgent food needs, two 40-foot shipping containers carrying more than 550,000 nutritious meal servings are now on their way to Venezuela. The shipments are expected to arrive by the end of July.
The meals will be distributed through our new relief partner, Association Civil Comunidad Cristiana Casa de Oración (“Christian House of Prayer”), a network of churches serving communities across the country. Several of these churches are located in Caracas and are already providing practical support to families and neighbourhoods impacted by the earthquake.
Working through trusted local churches allows aid to reach those in need as quickly and effectively as possible during the emergency response.
These initial shipments represent Feed The Hungry’s first humanitarian relief response in partnership with this church network. Additional food shipments may follow as needs continue to be assessed and as local distribution capacity allows.
Please pray for the people of Venezuela, for families grieving the loss of loved ones, for those who have lost homes and livelihoods, and for the churches and volunteers working tirelessly to bring hope and practical assistance during this difficult time.
