Dear Friend,
From the very beginning of the Bible, God shows a deep concern for the poor and needy. He consistently commanded the Israelites that as God’s people, they must look after those who need the most help. His words in Deuteronomy 15:11 show that love for the poor was to be a distinguishing feature of the nation’s character…
“I command you to be openhanded toward your fellow Israelites who are poor and needy in your land.”
Thousands of years later, Jesus came and said something even more remarkable about looking after the poor. In Matthew 19:21, Jesus speaks to a wealthy man and says, “If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven.”
Jesus’ statement shows you and me that God’s priorities haven’t changed. He still commands us to give all we can to help those less fortunate. Sadly, the man Jesus spoke to didn’t know how to do that. But I’m so pleased that you do!
Friend, I want to encourage you that as you support the poor and needy through Feed The Hungry, you are doing something powerful. You are carrying on a God-given ministry that rates at the very top of God’s priorities for His people.
So thank you for making other people’s welfare a priority in your life. Many thousands around the world know how good a full life feels because of your gifts and prayers.
Blessings,
Pete Sumrall
