You're Freeing Kids trapped by Hunger in Burkina Faso

fr21no1-story-Burkina Faso Boy Burkina Faso. It’s one of the most difficult places in the world to live. Not only is the country politically unstable with a growing threat from extremist Islam, but food supplies are also extremely insecure.

As always, it’s a struggling nation’s children who are the most vulnerable. Recent reports suggest that around 500,000 kids under the age of five in Burkina Faso are currently suffering acute malnutrition – with (at time of writing) 149,000 of those at risk of dying from hunger.

It’s a vicious cycle. Hungry families desperately try to scratch out a living from the land. Kids are kept out of school since they’re needed to work the crops. So the next generation remains uneducated, with no hope or power to bring about change. Their poverty… and hunger… grind on.

But you’re changing that. In partnership with indigenous ministries in Burkina Faso, you’re breaking the cycle – and freeing precious children from the hunger trap. Children like 15-year-old Salamata.

Growing up in an impoverished Muslim family, Salamata has been under the care of Feed The Hungry partners for the last seven years. Not only has she received a steady supply of food to fuel her growth and development, but the guarantee of a daily meal has allowed her to stay in school. And most important, she’s come to know Christ as her Saviour!

Salamata has been freed from the relentless cycle of poverty and hunger, and she looks to the future full of new hope – now and into eternity!

fr21n1-story-02-Feeding Thanks to friends like you, 5,000 vulnerable kids like Salamata are currently getting daily nutritious meals through our Every Child Every Day program in Burkina Faso. At more than 34 centres across the country, children are receiving the food they crave – as well as the chance to encounter Jesus, the Bread of Life!

Our partners on the ground tell us that, despite the increasing dominance of Islam, there’s a great openness in Burkina Faso right now – not only for accepting practical food aid, but also for receiving the truth of the Gospel. But with the growing presence of extremist groups, the doors won’t remain open indefinitely.

“Right now we can import the cargo,” explains Pastor Joseph, our Burkina Faso coordinator. “We can get the rice meals in. But we may not be able to openly preach and share the truth forever.”
