Zambia: Farming God’s Way

Home » eUpdates » Zambia: Farming God’s Way

Feed the Hungry Zambia — a new chapter in the 30th Anniversary year of Feed The Hungry, of introducing self-sustainable farming, together as a Church and Community.To build provision for Widows and orphans as well as providing resources to community schools run by local volunteers as well as local families.Enriched by a training centre that provides local training by implementing the ‘Farming God’s Way’ program, learning to care for the land as well as benefit from it.

How does the program work?

Feed the Hungry work in partnership with local elders in providing common land which is registered as a Community Farm under the direction of Feed The Hungry. We then make a community agreement for local families and volunteers to learn how to farm the land, once the agreement has been signed;

• we invest resources to turn sandy soil into life giving farm land,
• by providing water,
• various seed crops from vegetables to beans and maze,
• fencing to protect the crops
• and as part of the program, visiting the training centre to learn about suitable crop management.

Every Village has common land that is barely used which is mainly scrubland. With water and training, suddenly, life is restored into the land and it can feed those most in need. Each community has a school of attendees of around 300-600 children, and these farms not only provide food for the poorest people in the village, but provides food 2-3 times a week to each school in term time.

One of the most devastating unspoken disasters of this age is villages that are left with more widows than men because of HIV, proving resources such as seed for their gardens, a pig, a hen or chicks can transform their lives by providing sustainable and on-going financial and consumable product.
