Myanmar Disaster Relief – 22nd Sept 2021

Home » eUpdates » Myanmar Disaster Relief – 22nd Sept 2021

Update: 22nd Sept 2021

A UN envoy brokered a ceasefire to allow humanitarian organisations to render aid in the affected regions. While the fighting has slowed considerably, refugees continue to dig bomb shelters in the dirt as the only defence they can muster against bombing attacks or machine gun strafing attacks by the military junta jet planes. While our team was visiting one location, jets could heard flying overhead  – which terrified the woman children who scrambled to find safety.

Every able man has volunteered to join the security forces that patrol the jungle running interference against any potential ground attacks. This has resulted in the various refugee centres to be mainly populated by women, children and the elderly. Many villages have created classrooms so the children could gather and they could establish some routine as best as possible.

Among the 50,000 Karenni people displaced in the area, fear of sudden attack makes foraging for food dangerous.

“The committee from the border area heard of our situation and have been bringing supplies to our people. This is a lifeline for us.

The village women are so grateful to receive the supplies when they arrive. We have organized our groups in so every family is cared for and treated fairly.

We don’t know who is helping us and we have no way to thank those who help us.

But our lives are being saved through the generosity of these people.

We thank you for helping us in this very difficult time.”
